Not Another Gay Topic

We are a heterosexist society, which depending on who you are, might be a good or bad thing. Besides marriage, there are many other areas of society that advocates of gay marriage might want to check out if they're seeking to end discrimination against homosexuals. For example, in our schools, there are homecoming parades, with a homecoming king and a homecoming queen. What about the possibility of a homecoming king and a homecoming king, or a homecoming queen and a homecoming queen (or for another topic, homecoming king and ten homecoming queens)? I think if we really want to end the heterosexist nature of society, we need to also crush it in our schools, lest children inherit this seemingly bad trait to assume that being gay is not normal. That's why rather than voting for a homecoming king and a homecoming queen, students should vote for a homecoming partner 1 and a homecoming partner 2. That way, it won't always be a boy and a girl who are king and queen, but it can be a boy and a boy, a girl and a girl, a transexual and a boy, etc.

They can still vote for a king and a "queen" - if you think about it Messy

What do they do at all boys schools or all girls schools ? Just curious.

I just figured it was a gender issue - one male, one female - not an issue of sexuality. Do the king and queen of homecoming always have sex, or just usually? heheh. Yah that would suck if you were a fag or a dike and got elected, and then had to have sex.

All joking aside - Here You Go. It already happened!!!

Yeah, I don't think the 'homecoming partner' thing would work well. If one or both is not gay, then it would be a sucky homecoming. Don't they usually have to dance at least once?

Anyway, kids are way to sensitive about their sexuality. I don't think gay-hate comes as much from learned bias than from plain fear in teens. I remember showers and locker rooms were grotesque when I was in school, and I never considered that someone might be gay. I don't doubt that gay kids feel any differently, but damn, it is already bad enough. I think it is kind of like magnets. When people have that much angst and fear bottled up, it is like shoving two opposing magnets together, the closer they are forced into proximity, the more violent the reaction.

This is something that should happen naturally, along with society. I don't think you can engineer it any more than you can with any other age.

I think it is utter ridiculousness. Homosexuality is wrong and that should be the bottom line in our society. Pretty soon we're going to have an ape and a pig being married to some guy who thinks he's in love. It's just going to keep progressing and making us look more and more degradable and worthless as human beings.

You're an idiot.

Please specify as to who "you" is

..I dunno about the reasoning, but I agree with dreamer. This is ridiculous. I don't want a frickin double King homecoming. The guys want girls they can drool over and the girls want guys. For all you naive idealists out there, that's the point. So get over it.

BigDreamer: "You" is you.

Dan: I never understood the point of the Homecoming Court at all. You don't have to tell teenagers whom to drool over.

I'm with Poet; I thought it was just to have a boy and a girl, not to have an arranged marriage.

Would you like to explain to any degree at all why you would think I'm an idiot? Even if you disagree with my opinions that doesn't mean you should act as immature as to call names; but since you have you may as well explain yourself.

The issue here really isn't about heterosexism in schools, it's about equality in schools. Regardless of your own personal stance on homosexuality, I think the chances of having a same-sex homecoming king or queen really depends on how supportive, accepting, and nonjudgemental the society of that school is. Is this something that can be engineered by adults? I don't think it can be done alone... I think support from the peer group is a necessity. But, I do think that adults can show that intolerance is unacceptable, and promote understanding to minority group in the States. How? Schools in my province have Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual groups that hold events that are for them, and include those that support their reflection. Outside of the education system, our larger community recognises the dirversity in many groups, including G/L/B and transgendered society. By following this community in the mainstream media (ie through tv,news, etc), the presence of G/L/B/T society shows to mainstream how much of a part of mainstream community they really are.

Unacceptance, based on religious views is a form of persecution. It may not be direct, but it is damaging. To say "I don't want a fricking double King homecoming", clearly points out the obvious action of intolerance.
I'm not even going to attempt a response at BigDreamer's ignorant response.

'Homosexuality is wrong and that should be the bottom line in our society'

That's the most assinine statement I've heard in months, perhaps even years.

I agree with you after reading it, again, actually... my apologies, I think it was late or something. lol... here's a more logical arguement...

I would venture to say that the MAJORITY of High Schoolers want a homecoming queen and king... I'm sure some places they have voted in a queen and king, both being of the same gender or even double king, but isn't the point of having a queen and king for everyone's pleasure, not just the two "elected"? And unless majority wants it it shouldn't happen. I believe that the majority of Americans want murder to be illegal... does that mean because 10% think that murder should be legal that it's okay? I think not... I think that majority should win, isn't that what it's about? I don't think homosexuals are ever going to have the upper hold, there are too many straights out there.

Well, Big Dreamer, Since I'm not from the states, and don't know the exact procedures of homecoming kings and queens, I will have to make a guess based on movies, books and television produced from your country. Aren't these elected positions? The student body submits their votes, they are tallied and whoever has the most votes, wins? And sorry to burst your bubble, but the only reason why homosexuals in your country don't have the upper hold is not because there are too many straights out there, but that there are too many uninformed straights out there. Your arguements based on comparing gay marriage to murder is unbelievable... open a few more books.

"And sorry to burst your bubble, but the only reason why homosexuals in your country don't have the upper hold is not because there are too many straights out there, but that there are too many uninformed straights out there. "

Explain yourself further... are you saying that if the straights out here were "more informed" more would become gay?

Yes, you're right, they're elected, so what's your point? They're elected and I'm sure that 98% of the time a chick and guy are elected "homecoming queen and king". Maybe you mis-read what I was saying. Read it again. You made my point about "election" of king/queen perfectly... and I made my point that 98% (majority) of the time it's a guy and chick.

it seems to me it is the Christian right who are the "Naive Idealists." get over it.

So, you're refuting my arguements by calling names? How mature.
