Sorry, Stardock. My money's going elsewhere!
Published on February 23, 2005 By messybuu In Customization Software

I was a user of Object Desktop by Stardock for the last three years. I never regreted the purchase. With Stardock’s consistent updating of its software, the quality, thhe cool new features they’d always have in betas, it made my PC much more entertaining and useful!

However, this month, I have decided that I will not renew my membership to Object Desktop. In fact, I will not use it ever again!

Think I’m wrong for this? Well, after reading this, you will agree that I should not waste another dollar on Object Desktop!

Firstly, I am no longer on a PC. Having two computers was unnecessary for what I do (nothing), and I could accomplish more if I used only one computer. Besides, my brother needed a new PC, so I gave him that and fully embraced my one true love, my iBook.

Why does this matter? Well, Object Desktop is not compatible with OS X, Apple’s operating system for the Mac. In other words, there is no way I could even use programs such as WindowBlinds and DesktopX on my computer. In fact, OS X doesn’t run programs at all! It runs applications, which are like programs, but with a different name.

Even if it could run programs, I still wouldn’t waste my money on Object Desktop. Like the Monk, I suffer from OCD (and I remember everything). Everything has to be perfect, and the options that Object Desktop would provide me would cause far too much stress on me. I didn’t suffer from customizing Windows, since it’s inherently messy, but OS X is arguably perfect, and so there’s not much I could do to improve it. Anything I changed would be changed back to the default soon after. That’s why I don’t use Konfabulator, CandyBar, or ShapeShifter, even though I purchased all three applications!

So, as you can see, it would not be prudent for me to renew my membership to Object Desktop Network. I’m sure I’ll make some people angry by posting this, and I’m sure some of you will disagree, but none of you can deny that I have made some valid points for not purchasing Object Desktop or any other Stardock program ever again (assuming they don’t ever develop any Mac applications)! However, if you can convince me to change my mind, then I’ll happily renew my membership!

Green smilies? I think I missed something.

I just wanted to add this as a add on to me earlier post:

Even after I switch over to Linux I will still have XP. Dual boot setup. I will always use OD when running a XP setup becuse Luna looks so boring.

As far as macs go they are nice. They don't need the speed a PC does I know this because of the way they were designed to work. I think macs rely on more RAM is all all not CPU speed.

"Believe me, you won’t be able to run any of your Windows programs on a Mac.

Well duh!"

Not True... Not OS customization, mind you, but you can run some Windows apps and games on Mac.

This is like writing a letter to your pool cleaner with "I REFUSE TO HIRE YOU EVER AGAIN" on the envelope and "...because I no longer have a pool" in fine print inside.

There's more at work than OCD here. Is goofiness treatable?

I don't own a Mac but I'm interested to know what a Mac can't do that a PC can (I guess this is what you mean)?

Who Are You, well who cares, it seems to me you should do the unbracing with your brother and get that cmputer back and give him the Mac, firstly you are entitled to your opinion but why would you want to tell people your reason for not wanting to subscribe again after being subscribed for 3 years, it took you that long to realize you don't like O.D. Well you are really upset at life for some other reason and want to take your money elsewhere, what money? ODesktop doesn't cost an arm and a leg, since I purchased it I haven't had more fun with my computer I love it. I am currently in Europe and some people here just drool when they see my desktop and all the programs that O.D. has to offer. I don't want sound cruel but you purchased these other programs like Konfabulator etc. Don't you know what you want? Why would you choose so many. Choose wisely and choose the chosen ONE OBJECT DESKTOP it's the best. Just to mention about taking your money else where do that by all means but you will not find a cheaper product and have such a variaty of endless funnnnnnnnnn. NOT UPSET AT YOU BUT AS MOST HERE MENTIONED WHY WOULD YOU POST THAT HERE. DON'T YOU KNOW WE ARE ADDICTS OF THESE PROGRAMS AND THESE SITES. Plus I have had the pleasure of exchanging e-mails with some of the Artists and Creators and Great HELPFULL Staff, so it's not just about spending money on another program IT'S MORE THAN THAT. Well got to go now some O.Desktop UPDATES are calling...........

Sentence tense, we don't need no stinking sentence tense. Reads like something from "Back to the Future"

OzGirl, I think that you need to read this again.

Just go messybuu. all that you accomplished by writting this was waste space. I frankly DON"T GIVE A D**mn if you renew anything, What a waste of time.

I don't see the point in this post... You won't use any Stardock product because you have swapped to Mac. ...ok, but that means you won't be using any of your other PC software. What's the point of announcing it to the entire world?

What's the point of announcing it to the entire world?

Maybe to see how many people reply in hostility for no good reason?
