Use the ignore feature of your mind!
Published on March 2, 2005 By messybuu In Just Hanging Out

I try not to involve myself in drama as much, but I have something important to say.

Some say that blacklisting others isn’t effective, and an ignore feature is needed. However, if the blacklist feature isn’t working, then ignoring won’t either. Why? I’ll explain with an anecdote from the past!

When I was HailStorm, the ultimate existence of evil, on MSN Chat, I had many enemies. Many people would ignore me when I annoyed them. That stopped me from annoying them, right? WRONG! I irritated them just as much as when they didn’t ignore me thanks to the responses of others. Unless they wanted to ignore everybody in the chat room, or unless they were able to convince the rest of the chat room to ignore me, they would suffer my presence. So, even with an ignore feature, my presence was still felt by my enemies.

What’s the point? An ignore feature will not improve conditions because what those you ignore say will still reach your eyes, because others will respond to what you’ve ignored, and you will be able to decipher what they’ve written, which you will do because of curiosity, pride, or some other emotion that keeps you commenting and responding to them already. Sure, you could ignore those who respond to them, but eventually, you’d ignore everybody in the community.

Drama starts and ends with the self. Only with self-control and resistance will one be able to avoid drama with others. Blacklist people you can’t stand from responding to your blog and when you see a comment by those people on other people’s blogs, resist the temptation to respond or comment on the words of those people.

I didn’t write this to be condescending. Hell, I’m terrible with my emotions. However, since I’m not personally involved this time, I could write with sanity and hopefully help others get some peace.

Actually, I only ignore a few people (not the most radical of the leftist, just the crazies).  And it works.  I dont read their comments, and when others comment on their comments, that is fine.  I dont blacklist or delete (unless the comment is racist or otherwise bigotted).

But it works!  They can comment on my comments, but I dont read them, and dont respond.  That irritates the hell out of them as they are just trying to get a rise anyway.

Hehehehehehe.......demonic laugh there!

I'm referring to the ignore feature that people often request be added to this site. Without the ignore feature of that mind that you use, this other ignore feature would offer nothing.

The kind of ignore they're looking for would not allow blogs to show on your computer if the blogger is on your ignore list. And that *would* work!

Their blogs and comments wouldn't show up but I think Messy if referring to is if say to take examples of the names on this thread

Drmiller had DrGuy on his ignore list and he visited Messy's blog where messy had responded to a comment made by drguy, drmiller wouldn't be able to see the comment that drguy made but he would be able to see the comment that messy made in response.

seems to me an ignore feature of that type would be a lot of work to implement just to keep crazies like myself and others from attacking one another

what's most amusing about the little skirmishes that break out in a "community" like this are all the articles such as this one with folks pontificating and picking apart the motivations and responses in varying degrees of specificity.

i'm sure when the first two australopithecenes threw rocks and poo at one another there were 20 others who had to add color commentary.

Exactly! It's why ignore never worked when people ignored me and when I ignored others, because there'd always be people to respond to comments made by me or those I ignored, and from those comments alone, you can tell what they're saying, especially if it's about you.
