The Church of England Returns to Salem
Published on February 19, 2005 By messybuu In Religion

I found an interesting news article on Christdot. The Church of England, in typical compassionate conservative Christian behavior, is set to charge with heresy clergy who deny the existence of God, Jesus, and/or other fundamental Christian beliefs. This is ludicrous! What right does the Church of England have to tell others what to believe? Where’s the tolerance? This is the twenty-first century!

It’s a shame that Christians have not adopted the love and open-mindedness that we San Franciscans have practiced for decades. We not only accept any for who they are, but we don’t judge their beliefs (unless they’re pro-life, conservative, Christian, believe homosexuality to be a choice, etc.). The Christians of the world could learn much from us enlightened liberals.

And that would be the Republic of San Francisco ? Now how far would that be from the nearest Death Row inmate ?

Huh? Are they telling "others", or the ministers in their own church. It doesn't sound like you think they can determine the doctrine of their own religion...

Should organized religions be expected to allow their clergy to undermine their beliefs? So, say, Catholic preists should be tolerated if they preach that Mary wasn't a virgin and that Jesus didn't exist? What is left that is "Catholic"? At that point what would separate Catholicism from any other protestant religion?

Heck no. If people have these beliefs, what are they doing in churches that espouse them? Why on earth would I decide to be a Catholic, or a Anglican, if I didn't hold to the precepts of these religions?

I think it is more intolerant to impose your definition of tolerance on other people's churches. They aren't storming into the places of worship of other religions and imposing their values, they are overseeing what is going on in their OWN churches. Places that they pay the bills for, and whose ministers are on their own payroll.

You REALLY expect a church to pay a minister to mislead the people you send him to preach to? You can't be serious...
